Felecia Smith, MS, CRNA

Secretary FY 2021-2025

Felecia Smith (she/her), MS, CRNA, is CRNA at St Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Felecia has been an RN since 1995 (Eastern Michigan University) and a CRNA since 2013 (University of Detroit Mercy). Felecia has two adult children, Kat (they/them) and McKinley (he/him). Felecia is active in an orthopedic surgical mission that travels to the Dominican Republic twice a year. She has lived all over the US: California, Wisconsin, Arizona , Virginia, Utah, South Dakota, Wyoming and Michigan.

Hayden Miller, MSN, RN

Student Rep FY 2024

Andrew Hayden Miller, MSN, RN, is a Doctoral Candidate focusing on integrating a novel approach towards improving anesthesia care for the LGBTQIA+ population by creating a dedicated group of self-selected anesthesia providers in the Cleveland Clinic’s Operating Rooms.⁣ ⁣ He graduated from Florida State University with a bachelors degree in chemical engineering and a masters degree in nursing. He is pursuing his DNP at Cleveland Clinic’s School of Nurse Anesthesia. Mr. Miller is particularly interested in the care and focus of vulnerable populations and community health and training in various anesthetic techniques and patient care. Mr. Miller has held clinical and research roles in various settings. He has worked on developing innovative educational approaches for Nurse Anesthesia students, including hands-on simulation training, and actively working in an RN to SRNA mentorship program.

Darby Nguyen, DNAP, CRNA

Vice President FY 2021-2022

Darby Nguyen (he/him), DNAP, CRNA was the inaugural Vice President of NAPF. He earned his BSN from California State University in 2012. After working as a critical care RN in cardiac & neuro ICUs, he pursued his nurse anesthesiology training earning his MSNA in 2018, and DNAP in 2020 both from Midwestern University. Darby is a full time 1099 CRNA with his own company in the NYC area. Nguyen has a passion for art studying life drawings/ studio art in his free time. He also loves interior design and is an active real estate investor. Nguyen is a practicing yogi, having completed his 200 YTT in 2016.

Andrew Fernandez, BSN, RN, CCRN

Student Rep FY 2025

Andrew Fernandez (he/him), BSN, RN, CCRN, is a nurse anesthesia resident and NAPFs 2024-2025 Student Representative. Active in NAHN, NYSANA, Andrew is also class President of his 2026 Columbia University DNP- NA cohort. Andrew earned his BSN from NYU and worked as a Surgical ICU nurse at New York Presbyterian Columbia University Irving Medical Center before transitioning to anesthesia training. His career is deeply rooted in his passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a focus on breaking barriers in healthcare. Andrew is particularly committed to serving underserved communities; an interest that began during his time as a health educator at a federally qualified health center prior to becoming a nurse. In addition to his professional pursuits, Andrew is passionate about community outreach, having spearheaded several initiatives, and remains dedicated to advancing representation in nurse anesthesia spaces. Outside of work, he enjoys exploring new cuisines, traveling, and staying active through exercise. His commitment to both his patients and his community is at the heart of his career, as he seeks to make a lasting impact on healthcare.

Yianni Markakis, MSN, CRNA

Director FY 2021-2023

Yianni Markakis (he/him), MSN, CRNA joined NAPF as Director for FY 2021- 2023 as a new-to-practice CRNA having graduated from Drexel University. Yianni was a critical care nurse for 8 years before deciding to further his career in anesthesia, having worked in various CT ICUs in PA & FL. Born and raised in the suburbs of Philly to immigrant parents, Yianni’s first degree was in Economics and Business Administration from Temple University. He moved to Europe for 10 years before deciding to return stateside and pursue a career in nursing. Yianni currently resides in Philadelphia and enjoys traveling, music, theater, art, fitness, and most of all being a dog dad to two adorable dachshunds.

Ruben Macias, DNP, MPH, BSN, CRNA

Director FY 2021- 2024

Ruben Macias (he/ him), DNP, MPH, BSN, CRNA, lives and practices in Los Angeles. Ruben earned a BSN from California State University Fullerton in 2011, an MPH in epidemiology from Columbia University in 2014, an MS in anesthesiology from the USC Keck School of Medicine in 2018, and completed his DNP at Duke University in 2024.

Jeremy Carter, PhD, MSNA, CRNA

Director FY 2021-2022

Jeremy Carter (he/him), PhD, MSNA, CRNA served on the NAPF Board for FY 2021- 2022. A CRNA since 2011, Jeremy grew up in North Carolina, and completed his BSN there before moving to Chicago to complete his CRNA training. Jeremy Carter earned his Ph.D. in Nursing Education from the University of Northern Colorado in May 2025. He received the Dean’s Citation of Excellence for Outstanding Dissertation, which focused on production pressure, normalization of deviance, and patient safety in anesthesia. Jeremy is the President and CEO of Excelsior Anesthesia and provides anesthesia care throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
